CHAIR:
CINDY DEKKER
I still remember so vividly in my minds eye as a young student nurse meeting my first ovarian cancer patient. My instructor and I went to the room where the patient was to be undergoing a procedure. She was a lovely lady - fair haired, probably around my age now, and she was gracious and kind to allow a student nurse in. My nineteen or twenty year old self, still so distinctly, remembers thinking, this is bad. Sadly, that was more than forty years ago and I am still correct. I have also lost a beloved nursing colleague and an aunt to this dreadful disease. It touches me deeply that in the last fifty years, survival rates for this disease have not improved. We still have lots of work to do. With this in mind I am humbled and honoured to Chair the Ovarian Cancer Canada 2020 LOVE HER Vancouver Gala and do my utmost to raise funds so that we can make a change for all of the women in our lives. This year, we have an audacious goal to raise $300,000.00. With your generous time and contributions, we can, no, we must, do this for the sake of all women. A heartfelt thank you. |
PAST CHAIR:
FRANCI STRATTON
I am honored for the opportunity this year to Chair the 2020 LOVE HER Vancouver event. I have witnessed the impact ovarian cancer has had on the lives of those fighting ovarian cancer during treatment and how it has affected their family and friends. I have known women affected by ovarian cancer, a mom who lost her daughter, my hairdresser of 22 years who did not survive this devastating disease. As a community, we unite when we share common goals and experiences. Through community spirit, passion and outreach we can make a difference in the lives of so many through awareness, prevention and support. For these reasons I truly believe events like LOVE HER bring us together to unite us in a shared vision for hope, health and happiness. The LOVE HER committee is committed to creating an event that does just that through fashion, good food and laughter. Please join us on April 16, 2020 for another fantastic event and thank you in advance for your support in helping to find a cure for this disease. Franci is currently the Chief Administrative Officer at Nemetz (S/A) and Associates, an electrical engineering firm of over 50 years. She also served 10 years as Trustee and past Chair on the North Vancouver Board of Education. |
